What We Do

Services

The old style of doing business sees large organisations retaining expensive pools of permanent staff. Your problems are required to fit their staff profiles.

Instead of trying to fit round pegs into square holes we specialise in building a team that perfectly matches the unique requirements of your project and which adapts and reforms to the changing circumstances as the work progresses.

Our skill, drawing from over thirty years of experience, is in building and adapting these customised partner relationships.

Quite simply, Enviromentor provides consultancy services to support government, universities, industry and commerce, to better understand and manage their business and the sustainability of our environment.  Our personal and technical skills are broad and we tailor each project, specifically for our clients needs.  Our projects range from developing and facilitating strategic environmental policy to practical solutions to meet environmental objectives.  For example, we provide strategic support to the Scottish Executive and have led focus groups to discuss motivation and incentives to encourage householders to reduce, reuse and recycle waste, in their homes across Scotland. Incentives for Householders to Change their Waste Practices   We write articles for trade press, including the Environmentalist (IEMA), Environment Business and Facilities Manager, Opportunity for Positive Environmental Change.  We regularly provide training for senior and middle management to raise their awareness about the environment and to provide practical guidance on environmental best practice and legal compliance.

For government business-in-the environment programmes we provide information and advice on environmental enquiries on a daily basis.  To this effectively, we need to keep abreast of recent and ground-breaking developments in environmental legislation, government policy and industry guidelines.  We are independent advisors to the Envirowise Helpline for more than 10 years.  We also write case studies to demonstrate and promote environmental best practice; we develop technical guidance and software tools for middle managers and we deliver training and awareness workshops to educate and motivate staff.  We also work with key suppliers to improve supply chain management.  For 5 years we have developed training programmes and helped 23 hosts improve their supply chains’ awareness and performance in relation to the environment and corporate social responsibility.  Organisations have included, for example, ASDA, Argos, Boots the Chemist, Body Shop, Center Parcs, Co-Operative Group, Halfords, M&S, Manchester United, Tate & Lyle, Virgin, WH Smith.

We take pride in developing practical solutions for industry and commerce. We have completed several hundred environmental audits and advisory visits for companies, from the Western and Northern Scottish islands to Kent and from Northern Ireland and West Wales to Greater Yarmouth. We have experience of most industrial and service sectors and understand the environmental issues that can affect an individual business. Power stations, car plants and assembly lines are as much of a challenge as shopping centres and high street stores.

Training

We also provide advice and guidance to all UK businesses through the Envirowise and Action Energy government funded programmes, which promote resource and energy efficiency. We are advisers on both the environmental and energy panels, providing telephone advice and visits to companies. We write promotional and technical literature for the programmes and deliver workshop and training packages. We have recently piloted a project specifically to reduce waste and resources in the retail supply chain.

At the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), BAE Systems and the Business Environmental Partnerships (BEP), we trained staff and students about the environment and the issues that affect business operations and performance. We also regularly lecture and develop workshop material for universities and professional associations, such as the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), the Institute of Water (CIWEM) and the University of Newcastle.

We provide workshops and seminars to dozens of waste minimisation and business resource efficiency clubs throughout the UK.  For example, the Ayrshire Environmental Management Initiative, organised by Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire, and managed by ourselves is now in it’s ninth year.  Members are around 30 companies and they continue to identify savings through improved business and environmental improvements on an ongoing basis.
